Ephialtes was born deformed and a hunchback, thus lived alone most of his years, as Spartans often viewed such people as outcasts. His father trained him in combat and taught him how to use a shield and a spear. ![]() His parents fled Sparta in order to avoid him being killed. Ephialtes was the son of Eyridemus, who was a Spartan soldier. ![]()
